Ironically, it is often best for them to remain where they are comfortable – out of the spotlight – where the natural confidence prevalent in Architects as they work with the familiar can serve as its own beacon, attracting people, romantically or otherwise, of similar temperament and interests.

wordpress was tumblr’s main competitor. this is a disney type move by them.

this also might help tumblr too.

How would this help Tumblr?

This absolutely devalued the platform.

tumblr barely has any value left

Anyways, wordpress gets this space in the industry. i think they’ll

1. Navigate tumblr’s future well
2. If not they’ll fully integrate it into wordpress (which is the better service imo for serious blogging or turning your blog into a full out site)
3. SEO. Tumblr’s is terrible due to backlinking (which once was good but now is trash) so, wordpress can help fix that so Tumblr blogs can gain more relevance on search engines and crap. you wouldn’t believe some blogs with really great content have like 30k followers, lots of organic engagement and reach, yet cannot even rank first page on related google searches. that’s a HUGE problem. at least if Tumblr could tout their successful blogs that are under their brand, that would be good for business. Sorta how twitter and ig has all those influencers (twitter’s is more alt right/ sjw/political, ig is more beauty/fashion). Tumblr needs to drive people back to the platform that way and carve their niche.

to briefly touch back on the “driving people to the platform” point, you wouldn’t believe how many people joined twitter just to follow sjw accounts that organize stuff, or richard spencer (not even joking), or even like more simple stuff like nba/nfl/football (soccer) news and rumors (i met SO many guys in university who only used twitter just for that purpose).

tumblr just needs to carve their niches out like comics, anime, tv shows, indie music, etc. like they used to, and really support the big blogs that keep people talking about that stuff. they really had people in that bag 2011-2014-ish before twitter and ig started snatching them.

What makes you think WordPress would navigate Tumblrs future well

Their software and business models are completely different.
